I’ve had a Spotify account since 2011. I remember I would spend hours curating playlists to suit my mood. I had lists perfect for dinner parties, for cleaning the house, for road trips and holidays. The first song I show “starred” to save is Danger Mouse’s, Two Against One (featuring Jack White). The first song starred by a female artist— Karen O’s, My Name is Trouble doesn’t happen until two weeks later.
It has me wondering, do I listen to more male than female artists? With all the lists I curated, none include an all-female line up of musicians.
I need to change that.
In numerology, the number two is defined as a feminine number. In honor of 2022, a distinctly feminine year, I return to my old form and present a new playlist: Lady Bits.
It’s a playlist that crosses genres and decades and includes an array of catchy ear worms, love ballads and f**k-you songs by every female artist I have in my Spotify library. Songs saved for the pretty harmonies, others for the nostalgic bite they provide when listened to. Songs to dance to. Songs to cry with. Many tunes were gathered for research purposes during the years I sang and performed in a band. Some just because I liked the bass line. It’s diverse and I hope enjoyable.
Happy 2022. #TheFutureisFemaleisNow.
PS -And I’m still adding to it, so f there’s an artist your surprised isn’t on here, please tell me in the comments.
